Every day that I log onto WoW lately brings the same dilemma – to daily or not to daily?
I have two level 80s who are happily raiding whenever they get the chance, but one cannot live on raids alone. (In fact, I’m pretty sure if one tried to – at least if that one were me – there would be a large computer-shaped hole in one’s nearest window out of which one’s computer would have made a less-than-graceful exit.) So what to do when I’m not raiding?
Well, there’s always leveling additional alts. I’m working on a holy priest (Alliance) and a hunter (Horde) and these offer their own amusements. However, I hardly want to completely neglect my mains except for their raids – they deserve better. And that’s where dailies come in.
When I hit level 70 in Burning Crusade, there were none of these questions. I ported from Shattrath to the Isle of Quel’danas and could bang out a handful of rep-building and money-stockpiling dailies in under an hour. And then it was on to any number of other projects I was working on from professions to badges to progression.
But there’s no such Isle for level 80s, and that’s where I end up stumped. For a while I did the cooking and fishing dailies faithfully, but I can’t even scrounge up much enthusiasm for those anymore.
I know I’m the odd man out here, but I just don’t really have fun with any of the major “daily” areas. The Ebon Blade ones are okay, as are the Argent Stand ones, but once you’ve reached Exalted with their faction, they don’t hold as much appeal. And although I know it’s my duty as a red-blooded raider who doesn’t have Inscription to get as much rep as possible with the Sons of Hodir, I can’t find it within me to care enough about them to do it now that I’ve gotten enough rep for the base enchants. As for the Argent Tournament…let’s just say, jousting and I don’t get along so well, and I’m not a fan of flying halfway across Northrend to kiss a frog so that some moldy old biddy can toss me a sword. Even my desire for a squire pet hasn’t made me turn my wings northward to go to the Tournament grounds regularly.
My friends and loved ones do not seem to have this issue. They line up for the dailies and achievements and bang them out laboriously, celebrating at the end of the day by surfing down their giant piles of gold like Scrooge McDuck. I have one friend who has gotten all or most of the cooking achievements on three different toons – I haven’t even finished it on one!
So I have to wonder at myself – is it merely that I’m ridiculously lazy about dailies? Why don’t I care to grind out enough cooking rewards for a jaunty Chef’s Hat? Is it really just that there’s no immediate convenient location to jump to like the old blood elf island? I used to do dailies with diligence – now I do them in between bouts of snoring on my bed with a half-open book abandoned beside me when I’m home sick with the flu.
I have hope though. My little holy priest can already do the cooking daily at level 67. Every day I quickly jog her through it. Perhaps, in time (read: when the next patch comes out and I need Argent Tournament stuff), I will give up my daily /ignore war with the Argent Tournament and learn to joust without my pally hanging over my shoulder telling me how to do it properly while I consider elbowing him in the gut. Perhaps I will learn to love Hodir’s kids and they will consider me Exalted in return. Or I’ll go back to Sholazar and work on those weird little tribal factions to get the weird little rewards they offer. (Eggs? Candy? Cookies and ice cream? Who knows…)
In the meantime I will remain the gawky giraffe in the middle of the sleek herd of zebra, working on my bizarre, purpose-less little projects (read: don’t offer achievements) that nonetheless give me great joy.
