Awww, yeah. It can be romantic to play with the one you love.

I’ve met tons of couples online who play WoW.  In fact, it always is a little surprising when I encounter someone whose better half doesn’t play.  Our guild is made up of a number of couples and our closest WoW friends are mostly married players.  I know this is probably my experience, rather than the overall bent of the game.  But for me WoW is a giant coffee-house for couples and singletons who like quoting Matt Groening shows and hanging out together after work.

So what is it about WoW that attracts twosomes? (more…)

The Perfect Cold Remedy

The Perfect Cold Remedy

I have spent the better part of the past week exhausted, achy and stuffed up to the extent that my Ventrilo vocalizations have surely suffered from a severely “nasal”-ly quality – in short, struck down by a nasty summer cold.  As a result, I hung around the house in jammies, playing copious amounts of WoW, sleeping, drinking loads of water, eating tons of miso soup (my sick – and well – food of choice is always Japanese cuisine) and hauling about tissue with me wherever I went.

In between raiding, healing instance runs, and leveling a holy priest (because you can never have too many healers), I have also been slowly but surely working on my Top Secret Azeroth Appreciation Project.  My little hunter got herself a Piggie of Death and trained a Horde-only spawned lion called Ey-chee-*sneeze*.  She solo’d Ragefire Chasm (not so impressive a feat, but she and ZugZug – the aforementioned death-hog – had a lot of fun.)  She created leather-y goods and skinned tons and tons of animals to do it.  She has explored every area she quests in fully, including finally making it to the top of one of the Thousand Needles.  This was an area I had always seen from afar while falling off one of the Horde elevators – “Oooo…what’s that place up there? ” *splat* – but never actually visited.  If you haven’t climbed to the top of the needle, I highly recommend it.  The view is worth the trip.

Pay no attention to the tree...

I took a non-healing alt into Naxx last night, and I discovered something I had never noticed before.  If you really step back to think about it, the wandering Entwives that are druid treeforms are hilarious in battle.

As we leapt into Gluth’s room and began to pour damage into the giant patchwork dog, our group’s druid healer was nowhere near me.  I began my usual happy dps rotation of fire, fire and more fire.  And then, out of nowhere, a tree scooted past me, filling my screen for a second with bark and swirling green tree-hands.  Then she was gone, off to do her tree thing, so quickly it was almost as if it hadn’t happened.  And it occurred to me in an odd out-of-game experience that a tree had just walked past me.  Looking ridiculously out of place in the dungeon filled with the giant dog, I might add.

Top Secret Azeroth Appreciation Project

People change, hairstyles change, interest rates fluctuate… – Hillary Flammond, Top Secret!

There have been a lot of posts floating around the WoW blogosphere recently about burnout and general enthusiasm for the game (I linked just a few of them, but trust me, there’s bunches out there.)

This is part of the reason that I love healing.  No matter how much I may tire of dailies or questing or achievements at times, I never really tire of the challenge of healing.  Going into a raid and laying HoTs all over the place as if they were going out of style, seeing the tank with 1% health vault into the almost-full stratosphere by popping a Swiftmend or Nature’s-Swiftness-and-Healing-Touch at the last minute, downing a difficult boss with everyone still alive at the end – these are the things that always seem to brighten my days in WoW.

But all this talk of burnout did get me thinking – are there any aspects of the game that I am burned out on?  Am I growing jaded?  Is the magic gone?

In some ways, the answer was yes.  (more…)
